Howard Weinstein, MD

Christopher’s Haven provides a home away from home for children being treated for cancer at the MassGeneral Hospital for Children in Boston. Patients and their families come to MGH from all over the country and often require a six to eight week outpatient stay for specialized proton beam radiation therapy. Today, Christopher’s Haven leases a pair of two bedroom apartments overlooking the Charles River within walking distance of the hospital where the children typically receive daily outpatient treatment. Rather than staying in a cramped hotel room, children have space to play and parents have some privacy in a stressful time.

The apartments are only a start. To meet the growing need at the MassGeneral Hospital, we must create a place where eight to ten families can stay for the best possible experience.

Dr. Weinstein is an internationally recognized pioneer in the development of successful chemotherapy protocols for children with cancer. Dr. Weinstein came to MassGeneral in 1996 after serving over twenty years at Children’s Hospital Boston and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Under his leadership at MGH, the Pediatric Hematology and Oncology program has had enormous growth while developing new clinical and laboratory initiatives and programs including the multi-disciplinary Brain Tumor program.

We at Christopher’s Haven are so very proud to be able to honor Dr. Howard Weinstein. Please join us as we pay tribute to Howard, who continues to positively impact the lives of so many children and their families throughout the country and the world.
