A Shower for Christopher's Haven

APRIL 14, 2008

Kevin Youkilis's Hits For Kids held a shower for Christophers Haven at Hotel Commonwealth this morning. Hits For Kids raises money for three different charities, one of them being Christophers Haven. Started by three time cancer survivor, Dan Olsen, Christophers Haven provides a place for children and their families to stay while undergoing proton beam cancer treatment at Mass General Hospital. Because many of these patients are from out of state, lodging can run up to $20,000 at the end of their stay. Due to the generosity of the Hits For Kids donors, nine additional rooms were made possible today at Christophers Haven.

Youkilis Hits for Kids Holiday Party

Dan Olsen, founder of Christopher's Haven, which provides housing to families whose child is being treated for cancer in Boston, was the MC for the 2007 Kevin Youkilis Hits for Kids Holiday Party.

The Red Sox were well represented by Lefty and Righty.

Children enjoyed great food, entertainment and music at the Charles Hotel in Cambridge and ended the day with Christmas Tree Lighting.

Algonquin Club

2nd Annual Celebrate Children at the Algonquin Club in Boston, November 10, 2007

The stars came out this night to honor Howard J. Weinstein, Chief, Pediatric Hematology-Oncology, Massachusetts General Hospital for Children. The event, which was co-chaired by Tanya Broadbent and Jamie Dorsey, both of Sudbury, MA featured a moving video that featured Dr. Weinstein as he worked with pediatric cancer patients, many of whom have stayed at Christopher's Haven. In the gracious Back Bay Club, a silent auction offered many restaurant, vacation and luxury items, while a live auction saw highly competitive bidding for Red Sox and Patriots sports items. Walk on roles for an upcoming movie to be shot in Boston brought two winning bids of $15,000 each. The auction was chaired by Kathryn Brackett and the tribute book was chaired by Jayne Lampert, also of Sudbury. The evening raised more that $150,000 for Christopher's Haven. Many thanks to the hard working committee members, intrepid bidders, auction item donors and all who made this such a successful evening. Special thanks to April Montgomery (CT) and her daughter Claire and to Jennie and Ben Walters (IN) and Noah and Adam for joining us for this special evening. Both families stayed at Christopher's Haven in 2007 while Claire and Noah received proton treatment at MGH.

Additional thanks to the MGH proton staff who joined us for this remarkable evening. Salute!
